Kelly Miles (69)

I'm Kelly Miles, the owner of Snoopies Ltd, Little Bentley, Colchester, Essex, we provide grooming for both cats and dogs.
From a very young age I've always had a love for animals. I knew I wanted to work with animals when I left school, so went to Agriculture College to study horses. After working in different fields in the equestrian world ranging from eventing to polo, I was asked to help a friend at her kennels to assist in grooming, after gaining a lot of experience I was asked to run the grooming clients whilst the owner went traveling.
A few years later I had gained some of my own clients through word of mouth recommendations and then realised I was a dog groomer!
In 2001 I was granted Princes Trust funding to set up Snoopies and have not looked back since.
When I first set up the business I was mobile, but also working out of a local kennels.
As the client base grew it was clear that there was a need to grow the business and moved into a small unit on a farm in Little Bentley, near Colchester.
In 2003 my Princes Trust mentor nominated me for a business success award and was selected out of the 3000 businesses nominated. I was lucky to be invited to Sandringham House, where I received the award from Prince Charles.
The Following year I won “Colchester’s Best Business” award from The Best of group.
As the business grew I was joined by my Husband Geoff, who runs the “business” and specialises in Dog nutrition.
We very quickly outgrew the original salon and in 2009 took over a bigger building on the farm.
We now have a good size retail area, selling primarily fish based food and treats for dogs. We are very passionate about the health and wellbeing of our dog clients.
In April 2016 we launched “Bentley’s” - Taste of the Ocean, the UK’s first 82½% premium dry complete dog food.
In late 2017, we were joined by our son Toby, who is working alongside Geoff, on the retail and online side of the business.
I'm always trying to improve cpd in my career and attend as many seminars and workshops as I can.
In 2012 I started competitive dog grooming and still compete, with some success, to date.

I hold City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma For Professional Dog Stylists - gaining two Distinctions and a merit.

I'm the very proud owner of three Chihuahuas. Minnie, the eldest, is my retired show dog, Bentley, Minnie's son and Pixel, our little rescue.
Minnie & Bentley were both in the stage show “Legally Blonde” a couple of times!
