Norwegian Elkhound



Breed History / Description

In Norway, Stone Age skeletons of dogs very similar to the modern Elkhound have been found which suggest that the breed is ancient and unchanged. Spitz like with a distinctive grey coat, the Elkhound is athletic and strong. 

The breed has long been the favoured hunting dog in Norway, used by hunters to track Elk, when his resonant bark comes into good use.

Characteristics

A hardy hunting Spitz with a bold energetic disposition. 

Temperament

Friendly, intelligent and independent without any sign of nervousness.
