Breed History / Description
The Kuvasz comes from the Carpathian plains of Hungary, their ancestors taken there by the Magyars as guard dogs to protect their stock from predators and rustlers. In the past they have also been used as hunting dogs: they are brave and confident.
As flocks and traditional herding have diminished, the Kuvasz has been used more frequently in its native country as guard dogs.
Characteristics
Bold, courageous and fearless. Protective of owners, good guard.
Temperament
Devoted, gentle and patient but suspicious of strangers.
