Breed History / Description
The richly coloured black, white and tan scent hound from Sweden is the result of crossing the English Foxhound with German Hounds. The breed was developed by Count Hamilton, a hound enthusiast and a founder of the Swedish Kennel Club. The Hamiltonstovare hunts singly and not in packs and was developed to hunt fox, deer, hare and wild boar. The breed first appeared in the Swedish show rings in 1886.
Characteristics
Handsome, upstanding dog of striking colouring. Hardy and sound.
Temperament
Typical even-tempered hound.
